Description

The Double Checker is a pocket-sized, laser-cut precision tool to accurately check chain wear and rotor thickness. It features a built-in chain hook to keep the chain steady during installation and a ruler for quick measurements. Riding with a worn chain and rotors that are too thin can lead to the chain snapping, unreliable braking performance and overall increased wear of your drivetrain. With the Double Checker, you know exactly when you need to replace your chain and rotors to stay safe and fast while prolonging the life of your gear. The Double Checker works on all 7-13-speed chains, including SRAM Flattop, Shimano and Campagnolo.

The three-point design is made to measure true pin wear, eliminating the effect of roller wear. This means you know precisely how worn your chain is. The rotor slots are labeled for use on brand-specific rotors, such as SRAM, Shimano, Campagnolo, Hope, and Magura.

Application

Chain check

  1. Insert point 1 and 2 into the chain (Pointing the pins down)
  2. Lift the chain between points 1 and 2 to create tension
  3. Press point 3 down into the chain
  4. Read the wear indicator:

    < 0.5% – Chain in good condition
    > 0.5% – Replace 11/12/13-speed chains
    > 0.75% – Replace 7/8/9/10-speed chains

Rotor check

  1. Pick the right slot for your rotor
  2. If your rotor fits into the brand-specific slot, it needs to be replaced. When in doubt, always verify the minimum thickness on the rotor itself.

Chain hook

  1. Insert the two hooks, ensuring no tension on the chain in between the hooks for stable, mess-free chain mounting and dismounting.
  2. Close or open the missing link on your chain.
Features
  • Made for all 7-13-speed chains, including SRAM Flattop, Shimano and Campagnolo.
  • Exact rotor-thickness readings with brand-specific measurement slots: SRAM, Shimano, Campagnolo, Magura, and Hope.
  • Anodized aluminum is light, strong and Dynamic purple.
  • Guidelines displayed on the tool, no need for a handbook!
  • Clever chain hook makes chain handling quick, easy and safe.

Checking your chain and rotors for wear is crucial if you want to get the most out of your components and stay safe. A worn-out chain is slower, can affect the durability of your entire drivetrain and can snap more easily. Similarly, disc rotors that are too thin mean your braking power is drastically lower than with new rotors, which leads to unreliable braking and dangerous situations.

With the Double Checker, you know exactly how worn your chain and rotors are. The Double Checker measures true pin wear, which is the most relevant measurement to have. Separating pin wear from roller wear gives a more accurate result, enabling you to know the exact state of your chain. The rotor check, built-in chain hook and ruler make the Double Checker an unmissable tool in every cyclist’s toolkit.

FAQ

Can I use the Double Checker on my Campagnolo Ekar or SRAM Flattop chain?

Yes, the Double Checker works with all 7-13-speed chains, including Campagnolo Ekar and SRAM Flattop.

How does the Double Checker measure chain wear?

The Double Checker measures pin wear specifically, instead of measuring roller wear like most other chain checking tools do. This means the Double Checker gives you the most accurate reading of how worn your chain is.

I’m in doubt about the thickness of my rotor, how do I double check this?

On most rotors, you can find the exact thickness requirements on the rotor itself. When in doubt, check these readings and measure the rotor using the ruler on the Double Checker.
